Many eye diseases result in the need for specialized eyewear and visual aids. Dr. Orenstein provides a comprehensive Low Vision Rehabilition evaluation for the greater Worcester area to help determine what type of visual aids will improve quality of life, whether some simple low tech magnifiers or the latest high tech electronic video device.
Dr. Orenstein's interest in LOW VISION REHABILITATION started when she was a student at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry. She elected to do her externship there at their prestigious low vision rehabilitation center (now known as the Feinbloom Low Vision Rehabilitation Center). There she was mentored by experts and innovators in the field. She describes it as an intensive, incredible learning experience. It laid a solid foundation for her expertise in the field of LOW VISION REHABILITATION.
Upon graduation from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry she went to work with a prominent expert in the field practicing near Albany NY gaining further insight and experience. She then opened her optometric practice in Whitinsville Mass to serve central Massachusetts and sub-specializes in low vision rehabilitation.
Dr. Orenstein regularly attends national meetings concerning the latest in low vision rehabilitation. She is a founding member of the Low Vision Rehabilitation Section of the American Optometric Association. She has passed the necessary requirements to become a Low Vision Rehabilitation Optometrist for both the states of Massachusetts and New York.
Patients may call the office directly to schedule an appointment. Please indicate that this is for a "Low Vision Rehabilitation" appointment. We allow an extended time for this (1 hours). Upon examination, Dr. Orenstein determines which low vision rehabilitation devices would best meet the patient's needs. Devices may include anything from specially prescribed magnifiers (different from weaker and lower quality types found in drugstores) to high tech video magnification devices. These devices are available in our offices for evaluation and demonstration.
